Recipe For Cooking Chocolate-Cream Cheese Bars

Chocolate-Cream Cheese Bars

2 C. (12 oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
8 oz. cream cheese
2/3 C. (5 oz. can) evaporated milk
1 C. chopped walnuts
1/2 tea. almond extract or flavoring

Crust/Topping
3 C. flour
1 1/2 C. sugar
1 tea. baking powder
1/2 tea. salt
1 C. (2 sticks) butter or margarine
2 eggs
1/2 tea. almond extract or flavoring

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9-in. pan.

In med. saucepan, combine chocolate chips, cream cheese, and evaporated milk; cook over low heat, stirring constantly until chocolate chips are melted and mixture is blended. Remove from heat and stir in walnuts and almond extract or flavoring. Blend well; set aside.

Stir together Crust/Topping ingredients; blend well until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press half of crumb mixture into pan; spread with chocolate mixture. Sprinkle remaining crumbs over filling. Bake for 35 to 40 min. or until golden brown. Cool completely on wire rack. Cut into bars.

Makes approximately 36 bars.
