Candy Cane Cookies1 C. sifted powderedsugar 1 C. soft vegetable shortening 1 egg 1 1/2 tea. almond extract 1 tea. vanilla extract 2 1/2 C. flour 1 tea. salt Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Mix together the powderedsugar, shortening, egg, almond extract or flavoring and vanilla extract or flavoring. Sift together flour and salt and stir in to the first mixture. Divide dough in half. Color half with red food coloring. Roll 1 tea. of each color 9 in. long and twist together, forming the shape of a candy cane. Place on an ungreased pan. Sprinkle with crushed peppermint and sugar after baking, while still warm.
